BlazeSports is a National Resource: A Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) Organization
BlazeSports is honored to be one of ten national organizations awarded in July 2010 with a two-year cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of the HHS Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) initiative. This comprehensive prevention and wellness effort, which was funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, will use the Media, Access, Point of Purchase/Promotion, Pricing, and Social Support and Services (MAPPS) framework to help communities implement solid prevention policies that will help residents live longer, healthier lives. BlazeSports was one of only 10 national non-profit organizations – and the only organization focused solely on individuals with disabilities – to be competitively selected to support public health efforts to reduce obesity through increased physical activity and improved nutrition.
This project will create a model public-private partnership to make and sustain significant and important community change. BlazeSports is currently partnered with communities in Illinois, New York, Maine, West Virginia and Kentucky as part of the initiative.
Joining BlazeSports as national organizations selected to support the work of CPPW are:
- American Academy of Pediatrics
- American Heart Association
- American Lung Association
- Association of American Indian Physicians
- Community Food Security Coalition
- National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials Educational Fund
- National Recreation and Parks Association
- Sesame Workshop
- Society for Public Health Education
