BlazeSports host 2015 Southeastern Conference Championships

SEC-logo-2015This weekend, BlazeSports will host the best youth wheelchair basketball teams in the region at the  Southeastern Conference Championship. The event will take place on Saturday, February 28 and Sunday, March 1 at Sprayberry High School, 2525 Sandy Plains Road, Marietta, GA. This year will be the fourth year in a row that BlazeSports has hosted the regional championships.

The Southeastern Conference Championship represents the final tournament of the season prior to the 2015 National Championships which are scheduled for April 16-18 in Louisville, KY.



The teams competing in this year’s Southeastern Conference Championship include:

  • BlazeSports Atlanta Junior Wheelchair Hawks (Prep and Varsity)   
  • Bridge II Sports Jr. Thunder (Varsity)                                                                             
  • Charlotte Junior Wheelchair Hornets  (Prep)                                                                      
  • Lakeshore Foundation Sharks (Prep) and Lakers (Varsity)                                                
  • Mississippi Wheelcats (Prep and Varsity (Varsity)                                                                        
  • Montgomery Red Wings (Varsity)

The BlazeSports Atlanta Junior Hawks’ Prep team is currently undefeated (16-0) and have hopes for a perfect season and a #1 ranking for the National Championships. The Hawks’ Varsity team is currently ranked #4 in the country and hope to maintain that position going into April’s National Championships.

BlazeSports Atlanta Junior Hawks in Southeast Regional Wheelchair Basketball Tournament

The BlazeSports Atlanta Junior Hawks travel to Birmingham, AL for the 2015 Southeast Regional Junior Wheelchair Basketball Tournament. The SE Regionals hosted by the Lakeshore Foundation, is now one of the largest Junior tournaments in the country this season with 12 Varsity teams and 4 Prep teams entered. The SE Regionals will be one the last major tournaments in the season for teams to improve their national rankings prior to the final seeding for the 2015 National Championship tournament.

The National Wheelchair Basketball Association posted the February national rankings and The BlazeSports Atlanta Junior Hawks Varsity squad improved to #4 in the country, the highest ranking in the history of the team.  Prep rankings have not been posted this season, but the Hawk’s National Champions Prep team is still undefeated so far this season.

The team seeding for the SE Regional was based on the NWBA’s February 9 Junior Division rankings.

As the #2 seed, BlazeSports Atlanta Junior Hawks Varsity team will play two games on Saturday, February 16, starting with the winner of Game 4, Rancho Renegades vs. Katie Komets Red the #10 seed.                                           

The Prep division only attracted 4 teams: BlazeSports Atlanta Jr. Hawks, the Mississippi Wheelcats, the Lakeshore Sharks (AL) and the Charlotte Hornets (NC). Each of the Prep teams will play each other on Saturday, also giving the Hawks’ Prep team three games on Saturday with playoffs games scheduled for Sunday.
