IWAS Junior World Games 2013

Wheelchair ad Ambulatory Sports USA (WASUSA)selected 35 junior athletes to compete for the United States in the IWAS Junior World Games being held in Puerto Rico from August 8 – 14 2013.  BlazeSports has 2 athletes who were selected to be on the team for track and field, Bryan Powell (Marietta) and Curran Brown (Johns Creek).  Bryan is competing in the 100m, 200m, and 400m races along with shot-put and javelin.  Curran is competing in shot-put, discus and javelin. 

The first day of their events went well.  Bryan raced 24.34 seconds in the U20 100m.  He threw 5.61 in shot-put in the U23 division, out-throwing his mark at the National Junior Disability Championships of 5.27 in the U20 division.  Curran competed in shot-put as well.  She threw 5.77m which is a new PR for her as well as earning silver in the U20 division.  Congratulations Curran on her silver and to both Blazers for competing so well on the international stage.

The second day of events, Bryan raced in the 200m in the U20 division with a result of 45.36 seconds cutting his time from NJDC which was 50.27 seconds.  Bryan also threw the discus a distance of 10.69m, eclipsing his NJDC mark of 9.94m.
