The 2nd Annual Amazing Race is dedicated to promoting heightened awareness, acceptance, and understanding of persons with disabilities within the Georgia Institute of Technology community. This year’s event was held on Friday, March 2 and BlazeSports participated for the second year in a row.
BlazeSports planned the adapted sports component by providing wheelchairs and equipment for a 3-on-3 wheelchair basketball competition and a goal ball game. Five Amazing Race teams played a round-robin tournament in each sport. The adapted sports program was part of a two day event organized by the ADAPTS Office, located in the Office of the Dean of Students.
The ADAPTS Office provides support and information regarding students with disabilities at the Georgia Institute of Technology. The ADAPTS program operates under the guidelines of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and it’s amendments (ADAA). The ADAPTS program serves any Georgia Tech student who has a documented, qualifying disability.
The ADAPTS-Disability Services Program assists students self-identifying as having a disability to obtain reasonable accommodations. Official documentation of disability is required to determine eligibility for accommodations or adaptations that may be helpful on campus.
